Fractal of the Week: Once in a Blu…

More experimentation via Mandelbulber v.1.16. I used a NASA star field image with this one as an inserted background. I’m playing with Mandelbulber 2 also, but so far have mixed feelings about it. Here is what could be a scene taken from the surface of an alien moon, perhaps using a time lapse imaging technique for the sky by a hypothetical astronaut.

Fractals of the Week: BioFurnace & Stars – Sci-Fi Themed Wallpapers

This week was a time for experimentation, much fooling around with parameter files, and here I have two wallpapers, one via Mandelbulber v.1.16 and another via MB3D. These two are a study in stark contrast, but I’ll let you decide for yourselves how these “feel” to you. Double-click the images for full embiggenation.

Fractals of the Week: Papering the Walls – A Tale of Five Apps

I hope the week goes well for you all so far. This time, I’m posting a collection of five 1600 x 900 pixel wallpapers, one from each of the five apps I currently use (I’m fooling around with others as well, but have made little use of them, like the digital art generator Silk.). The order from top to bottom for these by app is Fractal Domains, Mandelbulber, Mandelbulb 3D, Ultra Fractal, and Frax. As you’ve probably noticed with this blog’s theme, that the webpage displays even large images with a maximum width of about 600 pixels, so just click twice on each image to gigantimize it. I’m releasing all five of these as free for all non-commercial use.

G’day. Today I’m posting my favorite piece from the past week, my first real experimentation with fog-effects, which will be going into the next segment of my Mandelbulber tutorials. Image rendering has been slow this week, but productive if not prolific, and represents a major step toward professional quality in use of the software.

I’ve been posting a wee bit too much this week, though on different blogs, so I’ll be spacing out a bit more the posting schedules of each site’s entries from here on. I’ve gotten much done, and I’ve finally gotten the material I need to begin my Indic language studies, beginning with Tamil, and going onto Hindi and Bengali once I space study and practice sessions to sidestep the interference effect. Yes, they are distinct languages, but there are enough similarities to confuse the unwary student if studied at the same time. The Ebooks are already installed in my toys for reading, and I’ve just received notification that the print copy Bengali books I ordered are now being shipped — Yay!

This will be the first time in years I’ve really gotten into studying new languages, from Latin in highschool, Japanese in college, and Tagalog near the end of the 1990s. I’ve always loved learning languages because to be any good at them, you have to learn something of the cultures that speak them, and that’s always cool!

But I’ve rambled enough. Here is the image for this week, at 1200×1600 pixels. Click to ginormify…

Fractals of the Week: The Wondrous Weirdness of Wallpaper

G’day. Now that I’m finally getting this blog a bit closer to its intended topic matter with recent posts (but I’ll keep up posting varied content too), I’m featuring here some recently generated wallpaper by way of Mandelbulber. I’m including two images here, each in two different pixel sizes for differently sized backgrounds, one of each in 1680×1050 and one of each in 1600×900 pixels. Not that it makes any difference on a retina screen…

These were fun, as they allowed me time to explore making new parameter sets from earlier, less promising ones. No, I’ll not be deleting parameter files for quite a while, not until I fully realize their possibilities and no longer need them. Then it will be time to create new ones.

I’m getting out of making really large images for wall hangings and exhibition displays except for commission pieces, and will focus mostly on digital wallpaper and smaller images suitable for small objects.

These wallpapers are free for use, as long as attribution is given if used for online display on your site. I’m taking requests for new images, and if any shown in this series of posts interests you, let me know using the contact information on this site’s About page!

Egads! I’m late in updating it by three days, on all my blogs. I’ll have to get to it NOW! And remember, with these images, click to enlargify 🙂

Fractals of the Week: Digital Throwbacks for Thursday

G’day, and a happy Thursday to you. If not that, then a better one than last. This week I thought I’d reach into the archives and pick out some of my earlier images, to show a few snapshots of fractal evolution over the past 5 years since I began this silly endeavor of mucking about with digital art.

These are all reduced-sized versions of the original files, and at bottom, I’m including a slightly reduced wallpaper, still at 2592 pixels wide, of one of my most evil-looking images, and an old favorite: “World Building.”

I’ve recently finished one of my projected projects, taking notes from another of my courses and putting them in digital form, and with recent purchases I’ll be able to pen notes by hand on my ‘Pad’s touchscreen.

Why by hand?

Because I’m partly a tactile/visual learner, and physically writing the shapes of the letters onto the tablet or hardcopy notebook serves as a useful memory aid, plus it allows me practice my writing speed and legibility to better and more quickly pen down notes as I’m listening to a lecture in progress.

All for the sake of lifetime learning. My chief possession is my mind, such as that is, and I’d rather furnish it with the best possible equipment for when it’s needed. All the better to keep it open, but not so far that my brains fall out and make me a tempting morsel to the Undead during the Zombie apocalypse.

*Ahem*

So, here are the images, and with the wallpaper just below the first four, just click to enlarginate.
