Fractals of the Week | Of Kaleidoscopes & Sunflowers

Screen Shot 2015-11-27 at 13.38.40

This week’s post has kind of a fusion-reactor theme, in keeping with one of the mnemonics from Wednesday’s post, with a set of three recent images. The original piece is first, then a couple of images I ran through Pixelmator for variations on the kaleidoscope and sun glow effects.

Obviously, this doesn’t look much like a fusion reactor, at least not a working one. It’s from a new preset using a combination of Mandelboxes. Let’s see what changes the effects bring out…

This could bear some work on the shading, particularly immediately about the glow, but it’s not too hideous to look at.

The same for this one, though the purply coloration for ‘petals’ and the glow effect are a good starting point.

Next week, I’ll post more pieces using Newton’s method for finding square roots. See you then!
